NBA Star Anthony Davis and Raven Magwood Goodson Team Up to Give Us the Full Court Advantage on Finding Our Way Back with Finding Tony
The phrase “Life Imitates Art” can be traced back to 1889, when Irish poet and playwright Oscar Wilde wrote, “Life imitates art far more than art imitates life” in his essay “The Decay of Lying.” Now, some 130 years later, it feels as though there has been a shift. Art is most definitely imitating life in the independent film, Finding Tony. Released on May 10th, Finding Tony was the perfect film for us to review as we close out #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth. The film puts us in the passenger seat of a widowed former basketball player’s journey to finding his way back to himself through becoming a women's college basketball coach.

One Year Without Knocking
March 2021 not only brought back a plethora of bitter and sweet memories, it also reminded us that life as we know it had changed for the foreseeable future, and for some, life changed forever. One thing that you may have noticed, is the absence of a knock on your door by a familiar group.

Ready to Love season 4 returned to Houston for round 2 with a couple of familiar Houston faces. Host Thomas “Nephew Tommy” Miles returned for the 4th year as host but not with a “couple” of surprises. His wife Jacquline Miles joined him for the premier and Twitter went wild, hoping that she will stay on to give a woman’s perspective.
The Whispers Of Women’s History Month
As we close out Women’s History Month, I take a moment to re- flect not only on all the history that is being made this year alone but also the last 10 years. While I am still in semi-quarantine, I have been binge-watching shows that I absolutely love like The Walking Dead and there is an episode where Eugene (Google him) decides he is going to help fight for the first time and he makes a statement that is quite familiar with many shows like this, he says “ This is what they are going to write about.” That made me think of what I like to call Whisperers of Women’s History.
Rocket to Santa
We all can agree that 2020 has been a year many of us did not expect to ever experience in our lives. If we can feel that way as adults imagine what kids are feeling. The holidays are right around the corner and regardless if you celebrate or not, we know that they will not look the same for many. Instead of popular toys like bikes, video games, dolls, and electronic gadgets topping children's Christmas list, many kids have written letters asking "Santa" for money to pay bills, food to eat, and a place to stay. Well, Houston native, educator, and entrepreneur, Dr. Lakeisha Menifee, affectionately known as "Dr. Kiki" decided to bring some much-needed holiday cheer to the city's communities hit hardest by the pandemic.

Finding Ways to Say Goodbye in An Honorable Fashion
It’s our new normal for the unforeseeable future, standing in lines outside of grocery stores, wearing masks and gloves are now part of our daily attire, and minds are flooded with all-things coronavirus related as it is the top news story on every channel. A large population of the world is quarantined inside doing TikTok challenges, working from home, working out, stress eating, finding new hobbies, sleeping the days away, teaching their children, and worrying if they will run out of money. People are losing jobs, 401ks, and tens of thousands are being infected every other day.

The Tate Brothers: A Power Team
WHO SHOT GHOST? Wasn’t the question that was being asked when episode 614 premiered. The questions were surrounding Councilman Rashad Tate and the actor who plays him, Larenz Tate. I scrolled Twitter as #Tate was the #1 trending topic in the world, and I saw everything from “who is Larenz Tate” to “OMG his brother in the show is actually his REAL brother”. But the best quote I saw came from a fan that read:
Visit Houston: Give Your Family Something to Talk About
After some hugs, a few laughs, and a good meal visiting family can get restless. A survey conducted by Motel 6 showed that the average American can tolerate their family for only 4 hours; with 75% saying that after 4 hours (3 hours and 54 minutes to be exact), they need a break from their families. Instead of lounging around waiting on them to return to their respective homes, distract them with the beauty of Houston. As residents of the fourth largest city in the South, we can sometimes take for granted all the gems our city has to offer and some of us may not even know everything in our backyard because we stay confined in our own little bubble. Use this holiday season to discover or reconnect to your city, all while giving you’re visiting family something to go home and talk about.
Brian J. White Adds a New Title in Psycho Thriller

The drama centers on Brian White (“Moonlight,” “Stomp the Yard”) as husband, Frank, and Claudia Jordan (“Middle Men,” “Love is Not Enough.”) as his wife, Beth.

It can make you feel like an ant on a football field. If this is how you feel have no fear, Tay Mitch is giving you five tips to effectively utilize social media for business.

Although fentanyl has been around since 1960, it became infamous in 2016. According to the National Center of Drug Abuse, in 2016, fentanyl and analogues were the most common cause of overdose deaths in the United States at more than 20,000, about half of all opioid-related deaths. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 80-100 times stronger than morphine.

Houston Spotlight: DeQuina Moore as Josephine Baker
DeQuina Moore Brings the Untold Josephine Baker Story to Houston’s Ensemble Theatre
Other than her famous banana dress or Keri Hilson’s performance in Pretty Girl Rock, today’s younger generations may not know much about the multi-talented Josephine Baker. The fact that Baker spent her youth in poverty before learning how to dance and eventually discovering success on Broadway is definitely an accomplishment to marvel over.
How Do You Like Your Flower? Cauliflower That Is!
While red roses will be the highest selling flower this week, we are focusing on another type of flower in this edition of Eating with Style...Cauliflower. Cauliflower has risen to stardom faster than Cardi B. It is all the rave and a featured edible item. I know you have seen the IG pictures, Facebook posts, and tweets of everyone making cauliflower pizza. The carb replacing vegetable that was only seen on American tables as a steamed vegetable medley, today has endless possibilities.
Houstonian Honors Youth at 18 Under 18 Brunch
We have songs, books, speeches, and more about how the youth are our future; yet there is still a disconnect. If you were to speak to a young person they will tell you from their vantage point that communication is the disconnect. Adults seldom listen to children. Our youth go to extremes to get the attention of adults and its just sad.

Riding In the 2017 Toyota Prius Prime On a Generations Deep Adventure
It’s no secret that 2017 has been a rollercoaster of a ride for me. From January till Hurricane Harvey decided to close out the fiscal year with mass flooding, it seemed as if I was starring in a Lemony Snicket's series of unfortunate events. Dealing with one life altering circumstance can weigh one down. Adding multiple issues can allow despair to creep in, depression can overtake strength, and giving up all together seems like the best option. But I, including my family, am just not built that way. Weak is not in our vocabulary. Qualities like holding each other accountable for our actions, having a fierce loyalty to the ones we care about, and being so loving that we allow it to conquer all.
Fill Up Your Food Tank Without Emptying Your Wallet at The Oceanaire
So, we are well into week 3 of Houston Restaurant Weeks (HRW) and are rounding third bringing it home. But, before we do let’s recap week two! Of course, with every #EatingWithStyle segment that I write, I want to bring you something out of the norm.
Power Up with Tommy, Julio, Dre and AT&T

The cast of the highly rated #1 program on Starz “Power” was in town for an exclusive meet and greet with fans of the show. And of course, Houston Style Magazine was there to learn a little more about the guys and now you will too.
Chicks With Class Is More Than Just Brick and Mortar
I think it is safe to say that we have so many issues going on in the world that we can rarely focus on just one. There’s food shortages, illness, old age, death, terrorism, political unrest, and more that challenges humans on a daily basis. Because of this our youth, our future, can get lost in the turmoil. Adults are “adulting,” or at least trying to, and it becomes harder and harder to raise healthy/mentally healthy children. This is why businesses like Chicks with Class are so important.
What’s Love Got to Do With Paris?
Have you ever been played? Have you ever had your heart broken? Think back to the first time that you found out Santa Clause wasn't real, or the first time your parents broke their promise to you.
Beauty Mentors
Its seems like this world is more than adults can handle. Left and right there are so many issues to tackle. Killings, wars, fighting, food shortages are every where. Adults can't even adult anymore. If adults can barely handle this world, how much more can children? Kids are committing homicides and suicides at alarming rates. Depression is running rampant amongst our youth. This is why it is so important to have organizations like Beauty Mentors to assist our youth and bring them up as model citizens in the society that we now live.
Laurenzo’s: Continuing the Tradition of Food and Family
Walking into the new location of Laurenzo’s Bar & Grill in Midtown and there is only one reaction to be had, “Wow!” It is something that is so unexpected but quickly becoming the norm with the revitalization of the area that is attracting a younger crowd and anyone who wants to have a great time.

You Don’t Have the Answers
In life, questions constantly swirl our minds. Some we can answer but let’s face it most questions we really can’t answer. Who do we turn to when we have more questions than answers? Some look to a higher authority like parents, mentors, trusted confidants, and those with expertise. What if all those people were all gathered in one place just for you to give you the answers for which you search? The annual Answer Conference is that event that brings those with the knowledge and experience to answer life’s burning questions.
The Only Taylor Swift Show
Sadly we couldn’t obtain red carpet space for the Country turned Pop Princess, however, we were privileged to attend what might be THE ONLY Taylor Swift concert of 2017.
And Nothing But The T.R.U.T.H. - Pre-Super Bowl Party
The lights at Hotel ZaZa weren’t the only things that were lit Friday night two days before Super Bowl LI! The Star-Studded Charity Event benefited the T.R.U.T.H. Project and AFCA (American Foundation for Children with Aids). While the Truth Project educates and mobilizes the LGBTQ communities of color through social arts that promotes mental, emotional, and sexual health; the AFCA provides support to infected and affected HIV+ children and their caregivers. Definitely a worthy cause to support, and boy did they support it.
See the World On a Dime: Tips for Traveling On a Budget
I absolutely love to travel! It would be safe to say I suffer from wanderlust. It’s something about packing late, rushing to the airport, letting my seat back as soon as the plane takes off and sleeping thru most of the flight. International flights are even better!
