It’s our new normal for the unforeseeable future, standing in lines outside of grocery stores, wearing masks and gloves are now part of our daily attire, and minds are flooded with all-things coronavirus related as it is the top news story on every channel. A large population of the world is quarantined inside doing TikTok challenges, working from home, working out, stress eating, finding new hobbies, sleeping the days away, teaching their children, and worrying if they will run out of money. People are losing jobs, 401ks, and tens of thousands are being infected every other day.
March is National Women’s History Month. It encourages us to honor the women who came before us and fought for equality among all races and genders. Hundreds of women have paved the way and continue to pave the way for millions of women today. They simply pass the torch to the next woman.
WHO SHOT GHOST? Wasn’t the question that was being asked when episode 614 premiered. The questions were surrounding Councilman Rashad Tate and the actor who plays him, Larenz Tate. I scrolled Twitter as #Tate was the #1 trending topic in the world, and I saw everything from “who is Larenz Tate” to “OMG his brother in the show is actually his REAL brother”. But the best quote I saw came from a fan that read:
After some hugs, a few laughs, and a good meal visiting family can get restless. A survey conducted by Motel 6 showed that the average American can tolerate their family for only 4 hours; with 75% saying that after 4 hours (3 hours and 54 minutes to be exact), they need a break from their families. Instead of lounging around waiting on them to return to their respective homes, distract them with the beauty of Houston. As residents of the fourth largest city in the South, we can sometimes take for granted all the gems our city has to offer and some of us may not even know everything in our backyard because we stay confined in our own little bubble. Use this holiday season to discover or reconnect to your city, all while giving you’re visiting family something to go home and talk about.
It is officially spooky season and what a better way to cap it off than with a psychological thriller, drama, comedy? Yes, the “Dear Frank” movie, a Muddy Waters Pictures & Webber Films production is shaking up Hollywood with a merge of genres that hasn’t been seen. The drama centers on Brian White (“Moonlight,” “Stomp the Yard”) as husband, Frank, and Claudia Jordan (“Middle Men,” “Love is Not Enough.”) as his wife, Beth.
While the digital world has proven to be lucrative, it can be a scary place for small businesses. Everyone is selling something; how do you compete with the conglomerates? Where do you get funds to hire influencers? Then you make your own mistakes: posting low quality content, inconsistency, not giving the customer information to make a sale. It can make you feel like an ant on a football field. If this is how you feel have no fear, Tay Mitch is giving you five tips to effectively utilize social media for business.
Although fentanyl has been around since 1960, it became infamous in 2016. According to the National Center of Drug Abuse, in 2016, fentanyl and analogues were the most common cause of overdose deaths in the United States at more than 20,000, about half of all opioid-related deaths. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 80-100 times stronger than morphine.

DeQuina Moore Brings the Untold Josephine Baker Story to Houston’s Ensemble Theatre
Other than her famous banana dress or Keri Hilson’s performance in Pretty Girl Rock, today’s younger generations may not know much about the multi-talented Josephine Baker. The fact that Baker spent her youth in poverty before learning how to dance and eventually discovering success on Broadway is definitely an accomplishment to marvel over.
While red roses will be the highest selling flower this week, we are focusing on another type of flower in this edition of Eating with Style...Cauliflower. Cauliflower has risen to stardom faster than Cardi B. It is all the rave and a featured edible item. I know you have seen the IG pictures, Facebook posts, and tweets of everyone making cauliflower pizza. The carb replacing vegetable that was only seen on American tables as a steamed vegetable medley, today has endless possibilities.
We have songs, books, speeches, and more about how the youth are our future; yet there is still a disconnect. If you were to speak to a young person they will tell you from their vantage point that communication is the disconnect. Adults seldom listen to children. Our youth go to extremes to get the attention of adults and its just sad.
According to most Instagram accounts, international travel is common. However, contrary to popular belief, international travelers are still a minority group. Now maybe the royal wedding put you in the position to get bit by the travel bug. Maybe it’s those Facebook ads with the most succulent fruit, and refreshing blue waters you have ever seen, or maybe it’s just your time to travel. Either way, if you have your passport in hand and you’re standing in the customs line, or you’re on a website looking for your first international trip, we want you to #TravelWithStyle by reading a couple of our tips.
It's a vibe! Art, Beats & Lyrics presented by Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey brought its talents to Houston! The traveling lifestyle experience was hosted by Minute Maid Park, home of our World Series champions; The Houston Astros. The event featured visual masterpieces as well as interactive talents, technology and more from renowned artist across the country. Couple that with some live DJ's including Houston's own DJ Big Reeks of The Waxaholics, a headlining set from the legendary, hip-hop producer and DJ: Mannie Fresh; and a donation to benefit devastated Hurricane Harvey areas and you have captured the essence of AB+L.
It’s no secret that 2017 has been a rollercoaster of a ride for me. From January till Hurricane Harvey decided to close out the fiscal year with mass flooding, it seemed as if I was starring in a Lemony Snicket's series of unfortunate events. Dealing with one life altering circumstance can weigh one down. Adding multiple issues can allow despair to creep in, depression can overtake strength, and giving up all together seems like the best option. But I, including my family, am just not built that way. Weak is not in our vocabulary. Qualities like holding each other accountable for our actions, having a fierce loyalty to the ones we care about, and being so loving that we allow it to conquer all.
So, we are well into week 3 of Houston Restaurant Weeks (HRW) and are rounding third bringing it home. But, before we do let’s recap week two! Of course, with every #EatingWithStyle segment that I write, I want to bring you something out of the norm.
AT&T has become known as the brand to mobilize your world. But this past weekend in Houston AT&T brought the power to our world in the form of Joseph Sikora, J.R. Ramirez, and Rotimi Akinosho. The cast of the highly rated #1 program on Starz “Power” was in town for an exclusive meet and greet with fans of the show. And of course, Houston Style Magazine was there to learn a little more about the guys and now you will too.
I think it is safe to say that we have so many issues going on in the world that we can rarely focus on just one. There’s food shortages, illness, old age, death, terrorism, political unrest, and more that challenges humans on a daily basis. Because of this our youth, our future, can get lost in the turmoil. Adults are “adulting,” or at least trying to, and it becomes harder and harder to raise healthy/mentally healthy children. This is why businesses like Chicks with Class are so important.
Have you ever been played? Have you ever had your heart broken? Think back to the first time that you found out Santa Clause wasn't real, or the first time your parents broke their promise to you.
Its seems like this world is more than adults can handle. Left and right there are so many issues to tackle. Killings, wars, fighting, food shortages are every where. Adults can't even adult anymore. If adults can barely handle this world, how much more can children? Kids are committing homicides and suicides at alarming rates. Depression is running rampant amongst our youth. This is why it is so important to have organizations like Beauty Mentors to assist our youth and bring them up as model citizens in the society that we now live.
Walking into the new location of Laurenzo’s Bar & Grill in Midtown and there is only one reaction to be had, “Wow!” It is something that is so unexpected but quickly becoming the norm with the revitalization of the area that is attracting a younger crowd and anyone who wants to have a great time.
The little sister from Everybody Hates Chris moved on to embody Olympic Medalist Gabby Douglas, and has now blossomed into a young woman starring in her first role as a love interest.
In life, questions constantly swirl our minds. Some we can answer but let’s face it most questions we really can’t answer. Who do we turn to when we have more questions than answers? Some look to a higher authority like parents, mentors, trusted confidants, and those with expertise. What if all those people were all gathered in one place just for you to give you the answers for which you search? The annual Answer Conference is that event that brings those with the knowledge and experience to answer life’s burning questions.
Sadly we couldn’t obtain red carpet space for the Country turned Pop Princess, however, we were privileged to attend what might be THE ONLY Taylor Swift concert of 2017.
The lights at Hotel ZaZa weren’t the only things that were lit Friday night two days before Super Bowl LI! The Star-Studded Charity Event benefited the T.R.U.T.H. Project and AFCA (American Foundation for Children with Aids). While the Truth Project educates and mobilizes the LGBTQ communities of color through social arts that promotes mental, emotional, and sexual health; the AFCA provides support to infected and affected HIV+ children and their caregivers. Definitely a worthy cause to support, and boy did they support it.
I absolutely love to travel! It would be safe to say I suffer from wanderlust. It’s something about packing late, rushing to the airport, letting my seat back as soon as the plane takes off and sleeping thru most of the flight. International flights are even better!
Ask yourself, what do you really know about the Toyota RAV4? I’ll tell you what I know. According to industry rumors, the legendary famous hip-hop group TLC was given a RAV4 in the 90’s as pretty much the only payment for services. Additionally, Kanye West stated, “What you think I rap for? To push a RAV4?” Needless to say, everything I have known about the Toyota RAV4 pretty much was based from R&B music leading me to believe that the crossover SUV was an uncool vehicle to drive. So what happened when I got older? I never even thought twice about the Toyota RAV4. Until now!
Today is December 15 and it is National Cupcake Day! There are 1234 (a play on the recipe) reasons why I love cupcakes. The individual servings of the miniature cakes were specifically made for foodies like me! Because I love a variety of flavors, why succumb to one cake, when I can have multiple in one batch. I thought I had tasted all varieties of cupcakes until I hosted the launch of a boutique cupcake company from Houston entitled: Forever Yours Creations LLC. Here are three reasons why you should celebrate #NationalCupcakeDay, and any other day that requires cupcakes, the Forever Yours Creations way!
What makes a good meal great? Your accompanying beverage to wash all that flavor down. This week’s culinary makes shines like your drinks, the co-star to every great meal. I give you Drinking with Style!
The first time I heard about Shake Shack I was in Bronx, New York. It was a cold fall day and I was told, “if you were a REAL burger queen, you would know what the famous Shake Shack is.”
Do you want to know what's cool? A company that provides an expo so that their store managers and district leaders can educate/re-educate themselves on familiar products, new products, and changing trends in beauty. You have the East Coast, the West Coast, and now Houston has the Third Coast as we are cohesively making strides in medical science research and education.
This Friday’s date night is about to be filled with suspense, drama, a whole heap of crazy! Morris Chestnut (Rosewood) and Regina Hall (Best Man Holiday) take you on a (year) long thriller journey. They show you marriage, baby fever, surrogacy, and mistakes in When The Bough Breaks.
Nehemiah Preston is my five-year-old nephew. My family affectionately calls him Peanut for his insane love of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Peanut is an extremely happy kid who is never found not smiling. He likes basketball and toy cars like most little boys. If you saw him from a far at a park with me your first thoughts would be, “That’s a happy kid.” You would never guess that happy kid was dealing with a disorder that affects one out of every 68 kids. Peanut has autism.
It's here! 2016 is finally here! Of course along with the New Year (no s on year) comes the "New Year New Me" status updates & tweets! But why not a new year new you?! "Summer bodies are made in the winter", you hear, "don't you want to be summertime fine?"
Taking care of business does not have to be a bore by doing things the typical way. It is time companies and event planners really start to move away from the norm to give business travelers both the venue to handle business and the setting to vacay as well. Let me give the perfect example.
If you know me then you know I love cheeseburgers! If Burger King had a "Burger Queen" then she would be me. You name it; I have tried it. From all the national chains like McDonalds, Burger King, Whataburger, etc. to Five Guys, In N Out, Champ, Sparkle, Miller, and Smashburger to portabella veggie cheeseburgers Leonard’s, a plethora of food-truck burgers, including the famous doughnut burger and Waffle Bus Cheeseburger - I've even had a goat cheeseburger in Europe! Yes you can call me the "Bubba Gump" of cheeseburgers.
Eating with Style Series
We are in the middle of Houston Restaurants Weeks (HRW). All dinners have to do is log on to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and see mouth watering pictures from foodies, armature foodies, newbies and more posting and hashtagging. More date nights are being made. More exotic lunches are being taken. Some ask, with over 100 restaurants participating why visit one that you've been too before? Well I have two reasons for you: atmosphere (experience) and charity.
Beyonce has already told us “diva is a female version of hustler.” In other words, a diva is a hard working woman who is all about handling her business. Texas Black Expo is bringing some of the baddest divas in the business to help other women build their brand and break barriers in an interactive exchange of ‘Diva Dialogue.’ Dubbed as one of the most highly anticipated events of this year’s expo, the panel of experts include queen of celebrity gossip, Necole Bitchie; 93.7 The Beat's radio personalities, Devi Dev and Angela Yee; and model and beauty expert, Lady Emmy. The ladies will engage in a lively discussion on some of the hottest topics impacting today’s modern women.

My love for Ruggles (Ruggles Green) is no secret. All you have to do is venture to my Instagram and Im sure you will find a #Ruggles in every 10 pics. Ok maybe not that high of a frequency but everyone knows I love Ruggles. However, when Ruggles Black debuted in November, my life became so busy I didn't have time to visit.
I am a Gold Member Carnival Cruiser, which really isn't saying much seeing how you could be considered one if you took four 7-day cruises. However, I take pride in being a gold member as a 5-time cruiser with only 6 more cruises

I have to say I wasn’t feeling my best when I arrived at the Toyota Center to cover probably the biggest classroom held in the arena for the Oprah “The Life You Want Tour.” However, when I left the Toyota Center I was encouraged and empowered by Oprah and her Trailblazers (Rob Bell, Deepak Chopra, Iyanla Vanzant, and Elizabeth Gilbert). They transformed me and the audience via personal relatable experiences, thought provoking questions, and motivational stories.
Less than 1% percent of NCAA basketball players make the NBA. The percentage is even lower for high school graduates who choose to forego college to enter the NBA draft.

“Hi, my name is Edward C. Whittaker* and I am a recovering alcoholic”; words I would have spoken had I ever stepped foot into an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. Instead I decided to allow my story to be shared with whoever is reading it now in hopes that I am able to reach some of you before it’s too late.

April 15th was a busy day for millions; it was Tax Day, the Boston Marathon Bombing 1 year anniversary, brought the Blood Moon eclipse, and launched Illmatic XX. For a select few, it was a chance to be apart of tech history. The "limited quantity" of wearable technology sold for one day only at $1500 per pair. Those who were fortunate to purchase the device will join a group of "Google Explorers" who purchased the device for beta testing last year. The face-mounted computer displays web content on a tiny screen with voice commands for picture taking, video recording, among many other functions. New Rules indeed!
